Frequently asked Questions on Powerflushing

Getting your system powerflushed will help its performance enormously. Here at BoilerOne, it’s one of our favourite jobs because customers immediately get to see the benefit of it with heating that simply works better. However, we also know that powerflushing is one of those things that most of us know little about, so we’ve tried to answer your most commonly asked questions about it in the following post. If you’d like to ask anything further, just get in touch.

What happens during a powerflush?

Your Gas Safe registered engineer will inject water at high velocity throughout your entire central heating system. Doing this cleans out all of the debris, sludge and rust that builds up in every system over the years. This helps everything perform better and keeps your central heating system healthy for longer.

What are the signs my system needs powerflushing?

  • Cold spots on your radiators
  • Noises coming from your boiler
  • Any amount of dark, sludgy water coming from your heating system or boiler
  • A magnet being able to stick to the copper pipework running from your boiler

How regularly should I have my system powerflushed?

You only need to get your central heating system powerflushed every 5 to 6 years as the build-up of debris happens gradually.

Who can carry out powerflushing?

Powerflushing can only be carried out by a Gas Safe registered heating engineer, as otherwise your central heating system risks damage, as well as posing a safety risk to you and your family. Only engineers with a Gas Safe registered accreditation should work on your boiler or radiators. You can ask an engineer for proof of their registration.
