We tend not to worry about our central heating system until the winter time comes around, but unfortunately for us that's when most boilers breakdown!
We've revealed all in this short blog post...
Here's 4 common boiler problems that occur during the winter and what you can do to resolve them...
4 common boiler issues
Frozen condensate pipe
This is without doubt the most common boiler problem; a frozen condensate pipe.
If the weather dips below freezing, there's a good chance that your condensate pipe will freeze and create a blockage, causing your boiler to no longer work.
This occurs even with modern boilers!
If it does freeze, there's are lots of helpful videos out there to help you thaw the pipe out, but if you're not sure what you're doing, feel free to give us a call and we'll talk you through it.
Your boiler is making strange noises
Your boiler can make strange noises during the winter.
The noises can range from banging noises to whistling/kettling noises, and even gurgling noises. Either way, whatever the noise is, it's usually not good and their most common during the winter when your boiler is put into overdrive after months of little to no use.
Get in touch with a Gas Safe engineer if ever the noise is persistent!
Your radiators are cold
If your radiators aren't warming, it's a good chance there's sludge stuck in the system that's preventing the flow of hot water to the radiators.
You can push this out by bleeding your radiators, or if it's really severe, you can contact an engineer to powerflush your entire central heating system so it's work like almost new.
Your pilot light on your boiler is out
If the pilot light on your boiler is out, it can represent a significant problem with your boiler.
We'd recommend calling a Gas Safe engineer if your boiler's pilot light is out!
